Carlos Couto

Carlos Couto joined VdA in 2011. He is a Managing Associate in the Banking & Finance practice, where he works on transactions related to securities, the banking sector and insurance industry. He provides ongoing support to several Portuguese asset management companies in regulatory and legal issues, as well as in transactions involving the acquisition and sale of assets under management or the disposal of the respective shareholdings.

In recent years, he has been actively involved with the insurance industry, monitoring the regulatory issues faced by the main national and international insurance companies and providing advice on contract law and insurance mediation.

Additionally, he advises common representatives of bondholders and trustees on regulatory and contractual matters relating to banking entities, aviation finance and cross-border factoring transactions; and insurers and insurance intermediaries on regulatory matters, as well as issues relating to pension funds and pension fund management companies.

Master’s degree in Criminal Law, Faculty of Law, University of Coimbra.

Post-graduation in Company Law, IDET – Instituto de Direito das Empresas e do Trabalho, Faculty of Law, University of Coimbra.

Post-graduation in Insurance Law, coordinated by AIDA Portugal, Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon.

Post-graduation in Securities Law and Banking Law, Católica Porto Law School.

Carlos holds Teaching Skills Certificate, allowing him to act as a trainer, and regularly participates as a speaker in several training courses organised by APFIPP - Associação Portuguesa de Fundos de Investimento Pensões e Patrimónios, APS - Associação Portuguesa de Seguradores, IFB - Instituto Formação Bancária, and by VdA Academia.

He is also a guest speaker on several courses and seminars, including the post-graduation courses in Real Estate Management and Valuation at ISEG, in Securities Law and Banking Law at UCP Porto, and the Intensive Specialisation Course in Investment Funds at FDUL.
